Gymboree Birthday Party

My friend had her son’s second birthday party at Gymboree. It was everything I had hoped it would be. The day of the party started out as any day would. I had myself scheduled well. I was going to leave the house with the girls two hours before the party to give us plenty of time to drive to the location and shop at Toys R Us beforehand. Toys R Us is in the same shopping center with Gymboree, so it works out nicely. I had in my calendar that the party started at 11AM and we got there at … Continue reading

Gymboree Play & Music

In March 2009, my mom suggested that Jessie would probably benefit from an activity with other children her age. What? Jessie doesn’t get enough interaction from watching me work at home? Mom’s suggestion was Gymboree. It sounded like a good idea to me. I looked up the website and found the location nearest to me. Oh my! The nearest location is about an hour away. That’s okay; we’ll just go try the class. Little did I know that I would love Gymboree. The jury was still out for Jessie, but enough parents told me that sitting and watching was common … Continue reading

Cinemark Summer Movie Clubhouse

I need free and low cost activities to do with the children this summer. School’s almost out and we’re going to need to do something. As much as I love to sit around the house, watch TV, and work on my computer, the toddler will go stir crazy. Daddy works from home and he needs some quiet to be able to do his job. Having the toddler in school has really gone a long way toward some quiet time in the house. We just got a family membership to the YMCA. That’s taking the place of Gymboree Play and Music … Continue reading

Celebrating 3, Part 1

Today is my daughter’s third birthday. I cannot believe that time is moving so quickly. Wasn’t it just yesterday that she was a bald, compliant, and confused nine-month-old joining our family? It feels like yesterday. She is one of the great joys in my life. She is bright and funny, silly and naughty. She’s my toddler and I couldn’t love her any more. Her actual birthday this year was on a Tuesday. It was an interesting day that, unfortunately, did not revolve around her. It started off as a pretty normal Tuesday. We got dressed and went to Gymboree Play … Continue reading

ASI Gymnastics Party

When I was looking at all the places to have Jessie’s birthday party, I don’t think I looked at ASI Gymnastics. I looked at Gymboree and Little Gym. Gymboree would be convenient to most of the people I’ve invited to the party. Little Gym is closer to us. Neither Gymboree nor Little Gym did everything I wanted for Jessie’s party. ASI is a gymnastics gym with programs that start younger than Jessie and move into programs for serious gymnastics and cheer. The place didn’t even cross my radar when thinking of places for Jessie’s big day. What a mistake. One … Continue reading

Eat, Eat

Jessie and I took the Baby Signs 1 class at Gymboree Play and Music when she was 19 months old. She was by far the oldest child in the class. I didn’t care. Her pediatrician had recommended signing because Jessie had had so many problems with communicating. Typically children start learning baby signs around six months. The classes were a lot of fun. Each class had a different theme with signs to learn surrounding that theme. Water was an especially fun class. Not only did the children learn signs related to water, bath, and shower, but they got to play … Continue reading

ABCs and 123s

As a toddler parent, should I be singing the ABCs and 123s more than I do? I am always singing and talking to Jessie, but I forget these basic songs. We have a number of toys that stress the alphabet and Jessie enjoys playing with them. I still feel I should do more. Today in Gymboree we had a substitute teacher. Kyle is really energetic and a lot of fun. He’s been training at our location for a few weeks now. Jessie hasn’t been too keen on Kyle because she’s generally not OK with men other than daddy. She did … Continue reading

Toddlers and Chores

Keeping a clean house is a lesson parents try to teach their children when the kids are young. My mom and dad did what they could to instill in me a respect for a clean and uncluttered area. Having a clean and organized house can make for a more peaceful and less anxious home environment. I have a toddler who needs to learn about putting things away when she’s done with them. She is a great helper when it’s time to put things away at Gymboree. She’ll even help her friends put their things away. Yet this same two-year-old looks … Continue reading
