Apply to be a Disney Mom (or Disney Dad)

What’s the ultimate goal of many Disney fanatics? See all the films and television shows? Visit all the parks? Work for the company, at one of the parks or even in the movie division? I know for many, it’s the latter. A lucky few are qualified to really work in making magic: to be an animator, or an Imagineer. Many of us just don’t have the skill set to do much. What kind of job could knowing everything about the Disney parks get us? How about a seat on the Disney Moms Panel? You don’t actually get paid to be … Continue reading

A Tale of Two Moms

Help me out here… Have you seen the TV commercial that features the ultimate helicopter parent? The ad stars a mom who follows her kid around all day trying to protect him from the big, bad world. In one scene, helicopter mom is at her son’s school answering a question posed to the class by a teacher. She raises her hand, provides the correct response, and then gives the credit to her son. In another scene, the mom uses her body as a human shield when it’s her son’s turn to be the target during a dodge ball game. Next, … Continue reading

Mini Mickey: The Ultimate Disney World Travel Guide

Learn how to avoid the crowds This weekend my family and I engaged in an activity along with many others across the country: raiding the clearance sales at Borders. I’m devastated at the mega-bookstore’s demise, but that didn’t stop me from seeing what books I could obtain. Before I made a separate trip to the store with my mother, she gifted me with three books she’d bought there earlier in the day (thanks, Mom!) They’re all unofficial guides to Disney World. Between them the three contain myriad tips on taking a Disney vacation: how to find the best savings, how … Continue reading

Parent Moments at the Oscars

The curse is finally over. Kind of. I broke with traditional this year and actually caught bits and pieces of the Academy Awards telecast—live. Not on TiVo, not via clips on the local news, not on Oprah’s annual ultimate post-Oscar show, and not by navigating the Internet the day after. I actually got to see nominees react in real time when their names were announced as Academy Award winners. Thrillsville, right? Not so fast. Given that I’ve missed the last seven consecutive Oscar shows, I would say that last night’s accomplishment was one for the record books. It’s interesting the … Continue reading

The Mormon Mom Blog Squad

There really could be a squad for all the Mormon Mommy Bloggers out there. Actually, it would be more like an army, not a squadron. But, that’s beside the point. I recently wrote an article titled, Mormon Mommy Blogs, that talks about the obsession with these blogs. I have to admit, I’m part of that obsession. Sometimes, I find myself looking at these blogs and my head is spinning. After all, I’m a MM Blogger too. I don’t have advertising, and sponsors, and loads of followers. I secretly might want all of that though. I don’t know, maybe I don’t. … Continue reading

Win the Ultimate Football Entertainment Kit

For this year’s “Football Season”, why not try something different? Instead of serving beer, nachos, and the typical snacks while game is on television, serve something a little more sophisticated. How about some wine, cheese, and lots and lots of Dove chocolates? Make game day into your day by winning the Ultimate Football Entertaining Kit. This contest is a collaboration between Dove Chocolate, the Momtrends blog, and Holly Robinson Peete. She is the wife of the former NFL player Rodney Peete, and yes, she is a football junkie. This year, she wants to show other women who are football fans, … Continue reading

Would You Nurse Another Mom’s Baby?

More and more moms are deciding to share their breastmilk with a baby who is not their own But would you do it? Here are the options. When nursing each of my children, my cups runneth over, pretty much literally. I could nursing my little one to his or hearts content and still pup out three to four ounces of milk per side on a good day. Because I am a big believe in breastfeeding, I looked into the possibility of sharing my milk. I ultimately decided not to do this, but I did learn a lot about the different … Continue reading

Octomom Preps for Primetime

How many of you really believed that the reason Nadya Suleman gave birth to 14 children was simply because she absolutely adores kids? Call me a cynic, but I never bought the whole I-grew-up-an-only-child-and-have-so-much-love-to-give bit. Turns out the truth behind Suleman’s decision to be a human incubator may finally be revealed. Reports claim that the mother of octuplets (plus six other young children) is very close to signing a deal to star in a reality TV show. PEOPLE magazine is reporting that Suleman has been meeting with various production companies and executives at an undisclosed network to hammer out a … Continue reading

Octo-Mom Gains a New Home; Loses Publicist

Now that she’s pimped herself out to as many “entertainment” TV shows as possible, Octo-mom Nadya Suleman has enough money to purchase a new house. (Or at least enough for a sizable down payment.) More on the Suleman’s new residential daycare in a bit. Right now I’m more interested in the reason why Nadya’s publicist dumped her like a ton of bricks. According to reports, Victor Munoz quit Suleman three days ago claiming that the mother of 14 is “nuts” and “greedy.” “It just got to be too much,” Munoz told Us Weekly. “It’s pretty much a free for all … Continue reading

There is a Rebellious Streak Inside This Grown-up Mom

There can be no denying that I am the Mom in my household with a capital “M”—I am the authority and the bill-payer and the ultimate responsible party. I have grown comfortable with it over the years and I am not the slightest big interested in going back to my teens or my twenties or living the life I did prior to having kids. THAT SAID, there is also a rebellious gal inside who resents always having to be “responsible”—I still occasionally want to stay out late with friends and let the dishes sit in the sink over night. As … Continue reading
