Working Through Situations With Your Intense Child

If you are not a temperamentally intense person, it can be difficult to understand a temperamentally intense child. I am definitely not what you would call an intense person, I’m pretty easygoing and generally go with the flow. Dylan, on the other hand, is very intense. He reacts to things, both positive and negative, in a very strong way. It is never difficult to know what he thinks about something. Children with intense temperaments bring a depth of experience into our worlds that we have not previously known, if we are not intense ourselves. When they laugh, it comes from … Continue reading

The Spirited Child – Personality Plus

Many parents read parenting books to gain awareness and find advice on how to raise their toddlers. There are a wide variety of parenting books out there, and it is important to remember that not all of them will contain information that is helpful or a good fit for your family. Parenting is such a highly personal thing, in fact I would venture to say that how a family decides to raise their children is one of the most deeply personal choices that they will ever make. Toddler Talk

One of the most amazing things about watching a toddler grow and develop is watching their language and comprehension skills emerge. To Nap or Not To Nap?

Did you know that your child’s need for a nap is not something that remains consistent? Lately, I have been just about tearing my hair out trying to figure out why for weeks at a time, Dylan will take his nap regularly without protest only to then go for a period of time where he refuses to nap. Some days, I exhaust myself spending an hour or two trying to coax him to nap before I can bring myself to accept the reality that the nap is just not happening that day. As a parent, it was helpful for me … Continue reading

Spring is in the Air

Less than a week after being hit by the blizzard that went on to pummel the East Coast, we are experiencing a bit of a spring thaw here in the Midwest. Highs are expected to be in the 50s by the end of the week. Practically bathing suit weather, joked my neighbor. She’s only half kidding. The weather roller coaster got me thinking about creating an early spring scrapbook layout. It would be a good way to use the photos I snapped of the record snowfall. I could then juxtapose those with snapshots I take later this week of the … Continue reading
