Journal of Thankfulness and Loving Thoughts

insults, and disruptions. My children are not perfect. Each has done their share of complaining, whining and sadly insulting one another. Children are egocentric so they rarely think of how their words affect another person. However, if this behavior continues without proper guidance it will become habitual. Soon the only thing holding your children together is a bond of insulting behavior. Kids are exposed to sibling rivalry in the shows they watch on TV. Often siblings flinging insults are considered a source of comedy. Due to my frustration over my preteen not being able to control her mouth toward her … Continue reading

Whew, I Almost Bought That! A Tip to Avoid Impulse Buying

I’ve got to stop checking my Facebook news feed, not because I have been spending too much time being distracted (although that is probably somewhat true), but because I keep seeing all of these special offers, such as the Amazon.com Lightening Deals (“liking” your favorite store pages is one way to see exclusive deals this holiday season). Yesterday I almost grabbed one. I actually added it to my cart. With one click, Amazon would have happily wrapped the thing up in the smiley box and send it straight to my door. It was a popular video game that I knew … Continue reading

Thankful…Even If I am Working the Day after Thanksgiving

Yes, it’s the day after Thanksgiving and I am working. I don’t get to stand in a long line, waiting for door buster savings at my favorite stores…no Black Friday shopping for me. I didn’t get to sleep in very late. In fact, this week doesn’t feel much different than most weeks. The only way I was able to “take off” yesterday for Thanksgiving was to plan my work so that I would end up spending some of my Saturday doing it. Now don’t get me wrong…I am not trying to get sympathy. Would I rather be enjoying the day … Continue reading

Thanksgiving and the Occupy Movement

Whether you support the Occupy Movement, are against it, or are somehow unaware of its existence, one thing remains true. This is a historic event. Generations from now, genealogists will wonder if any of their ancestors were part of the 99%. This year, Thanksgiving was celebrated in a different way. Holidays, and the way we celebrate them, are important. Thanksgiving is usually a day that people spend with their families, in a warm and comfortable home, surrounded by plenty of good food. It is a day to give thanks for everything that we have. Genealogists can learn a lot about … Continue reading

A Thanksgiving List

Since this is the season for thanksgiving, I thought I’d share with you on the marriage blog some of the things I’m thankful for. It would come as no surprise to anyone who’s a regular reader of my blogs to know that one of the things I am most thankful for is my husband. The second follows on from that. I am thankful for our son and daughter. Thankful too for each of their marriage partners, that they share their Christian beliefs, faith and commitment the same as Mick and I do. I am thankful God brought us together and … Continue reading

A Week Of Praise

It’s good to be reminded of the big and little ways God provides for us and the everyday blessings we can tend to take for granted. So often we forget to praise God for His goodness. So here is my week of praise and blessings. I praise God for: Safety when traveling. A special time together with family. My footy team, the Sydney Swans, won. God’s wisdom in solving a problem with a neighbor. Enabling leading singing on Sunday and a great selection of songs which fitted in perfectly with the sermon topic. Our minister’s support and encouragement for the … Continue reading

Making a Difference at Christmas

A small group of volunteers have found a way they can help others, who are less fortunate this Christmas. They have opened up a shop in Nowra, as they have done other years. The shop only opens for the two or three weeks leading up to Christmas. The premises are donated for this short period of time rent free and the shop is staffed by volunteers. In this short term shop which operates each year, the volunteers sell Fair Trade products from Asia, Africa and South America. They also sell books, cards, hot chocolate and coffee. 25 volunteer staff will … Continue reading

How Do You Give?

Suppose someone comes to the door collecting for a specific charity how do you respond? Do you scrabble around guiltily for a small amount of small change, just to get rid of them? Do you give money to their cause and then deduct it from what you would normally give to another charity or organization? Do you tell them no because it is not part of your planned giving? Or do you alternate between all the above and then manage to feel guilty and in the wrong no matter which option you choose? In our household we make it a … Continue reading
