Oh No! Diaper Rash!

I always knew that the road from diapers to the potty might be a little rough, but I did not expect anything like this. We have switched from disposable diapers to disposable training pants, and have been using disposable training pants for a couple of months now. Dylan has been getting better and better about using the potty, and now most of the messy stuff makes it into the potty. On the liquid side of things, he’s getting about fifty percent in the potty and the other fifty percent in the training pants. One morning about a week and a … Continue reading

Nontoxic and Reusable Baby Wipes

Bum, bum bum bum….drumroll, please! It’s the baby wipe! Yes, this is a gripping topic. But for those of you whose children have suffered through the trials of diaper rash, it’s quite gripping indeed. Some children have very, very tender bottoms, and it’s important to have baby wipes that will clean well while keeping your child’s skin rash-free. It’s a big thing to ask, actually. Most baby wipes use alcohol to clean and perfumes to scent the wipes. The perfumes are not necessary at all. And yes, while you are dealing with baby poo, it’s not the scariest thing in … Continue reading

Types of Cloth Diapers: What is a Pocket Diaper?

I had a late introduction to the lovely world of cloth diaper terminology. Basically, we were just looking for something to put on our baby’s bum – preferably something not too expensive and relatively environmentally-friendly that wouldn’t cause terrible diaper rash. Oh, and it had to hold various sorts of bodily excretions, too. So when I first heard of pocket diapers, I thought: hmm, diapers that you can fit into your pocket? What a great idea! No, pocket diapers don’t tend to fit in your pocket, but they’re still a great idea. What is a pocket diaper? It’s a diaper … Continue reading

Celebrity “Real” or “Rumor”—Angelina Expecting Baby No. 5 and Ellen Takes Over for Howie

ANGELINA EXPECTING BABY NO. 5 If you follow interviews conducted with celeb couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt then you know it was just a matter of time before the aforementioned headline surfaced. Whether or not it is true… well… if you believe the Italian press then it is “REAL.” Various Italian newspapers are reporting that the 32-year-old actress is pregnant. If you don’t believe the papers, then it is just a “RUMOR.” The “rumor” started flying when Jolie pulled out of a commitment to speak at charity event in Italy allegedly because she is expecting another baby. A spokesperson … Continue reading

The Most Flexible Couple In Hollywood Weds and Pitt Says Four Is NOT Enough

It’s been a busy weekend for your favorite celebs. In fact, with the myriad of weddings that took place in the last 48 hours you have to wonder if there are any single stars left in Hollywood. Previous blogs detailed the joyous nuptials of Usher, Kate Walsh, and Byron Allen, but neglected to mention the flamboyant festivities of “Dancing with the Stars’” Alec Mazo and Edyta Sliwinska. The pro dancers were married in San Francisco on Saturday, according to their rep. The wedding had an international flare with the Polish-born Sliwinska and her Russian-born husband inviting friends and family members … Continue reading

Keep Calm And Potty On

After a few weeks of relatively smooth sailing as far as potty learning is concerned, Dylan has started to regress. I think that this started some time yesterday, and there were quite a few accidents today. As tempting as it was to tell him that little boys who treat their underwear like diapers will wear diapers, I resisted. Instead, I decided that I would do some research on potty learning regression. The first thing that I learned about regression is that it is quite common. That does not take the frustration away, but it reassures me that this is not … Continue reading

The Potty Learning Journey Continues

Today, Dylan took another step in the direction of declaring his independence from diapers. The way that we are approaching potty learning with Dylan is to let him lead the way. Yesterday I casually mentioned to him that we would be going shopping for clothes soon. He asked me if he could get real underwear. I told him that since he was doing well with learning to use the potty, we could get some underwear because we do not go shopping that often and we would want to have the underwear close by for when he was ready to use … Continue reading

Lost And Found

Today was a beautiful day to take a walk with the boys, so I asked Dylan if he wanted to go for a walk. He did, and when I asked him where he wanted to go he told me that he wanted to walk to the old meeting house. As I packed up some snacks and water, Dylan ran to the toy room to get something. When he came back into the kitchen he was carrying Buddy, his stuffed owl. He told me that Buddy would be upset if we left her at home while we went for a walk. … Continue reading

The Recession and Red Butts

What does the slumping economy have to do with the color of your baby’s behind? According to a new report by the Business Insider, one begets the other. The economic geniuses at the business publication have been making headlines with their hypothesis on the correlation between a near record number of recent diaper rash cases and the recession. If you have a child in diapers, then you may already be familiar with the red butt/recession theory. Apparently, there are millions of parents out there who are trying to save a few extra bucks by letting their children linger in wet … Continue reading

My Experience With Cloth Wipes

After deciding to use cloth diapers for various reasons, I decided we might as well use cloth wipes too. During my research on the subject I found that cloth wipes seemed superior to disposable wipes. I liked the idea of using only plain, warm water on my daughter’s behind most of the time, and using a gentle, non-irritating soap the rest of the time. In addition, the thought of the money we would save also appealed to me. In the last months of my pregnancy, when I was as big as a boat and unable to do much (I gained … Continue reading
