Girl Removed from Disney World for Dressing as Tinker Bell

Disney loves to encourage devotion or obsession among its fans. That makes it mind-boggling, then, that last week a girl was kicked out of Disney World for wearing a Tinker Bell costume. The justification park execs gave? Her costume was too good. Tampa Bay Online has the details. Fifteen-year-old April Spielman worked and saved for over a year in order to afford tickets herself to Disney World. She also put a lot of dedication into creating her own rather realistic Tinker Bell costume. The plan was for her and her boyfriend to go to Disney World on their own money … Continue reading

Bedtime Struggles

We had a hard time transitioning Jessie to her big girl bed that we gave up and put her back in her crib with a crib tent. When we needed to move Baby E out of the swing where she’d been sleeping because of severe reflux to her crib, we wanted to move Jessie to her new room so the children wouldn’t wake each other. We knew, however, that Jessie still wasn’t ready to sleep in her twin bed so we moved her crib into her new room. We hoped that sleeping in the room she’s not used to in … Continue reading

The Big Girl Bed

I love sleep. I would sleep in late and take multiple naps throughout the day, if I had my way. However, I don’t enjoy that luxury. I’m the mother of a toddler. When my daughter was a baby, we could put her in her crib at any time and she’d flop over on her tummy, clutch her blanket, and put her two middle fingers in her mouth. I’d turn on her CD player with lullabies or stories and make her Twilight Turtle shine its stars on the ceiling. She would fall asleep with no problems. We were so fortunate. My … Continue reading

TV’s in Children’s Bedrooms (2)

I observed firsthand the problems of having TV’s in children’s bedrooms back when my daughter was in elementary school. One of the girls in her Year 4 class had one in her bedroom and she was the envy of her peers. Naturally this girl boasted about her new-found televisual independence and I’m sure there were cries of “I want one, too!” in more than our household. When I found out this girl’s older sister in Year 8 also had her own TV, as well as her younger brother in Year 3, it became almost like a scientific experiment for me. … Continue reading

Transitioning from Nursery to Big Kid’s Room

Your toddler just celebrated a major milestone: She graduated from the crib and is now sleeping in a “big girl” bed. The question now becomes, how do you find balance between her new bed and her remaining baby-themed nursery pieces? When my toddler transitioned out of the crib and into a bed, I completely overhauled her bedroom, with her help. I asked my daughter for some input (color, decor, etc.) and worked from there. Her wish was to have purple walls and floor-length curtains featuring Snoopy and Curious George. There was no way I was going to turn my daughter’s … Continue reading

Ask a Pets Blogger: Good Neighbor

I recently moved into a new condo in the same neighborhood, and my new neighbor is not a fan of big dogs. Of course I have two big dogs! My new neighbor has always been very outspoken about how dangerous large dogs are (he owns a small dog). I’m not sure how to keep the peace here, and I don’t want this guy hassling me. You may have a difficult task on your hands — trying to convert a person who doesn’t like big dogs. But that doesn’t mean it’s impossible to keep the peace between you and your neighbor … Continue reading

Problems in the Bedroom?

One thing occurs in the bedroom that can cause lots of problems for married couples. Millions of people are, or have been at some time, affected by this problem. No, I’m not talking about sex problems but snoring. Snoring can create a lot of problems in a marriage. The reality is one person snores and the other person ends up being kept awake. More often that not, the snorer is the male, but certainly not always. This results in the person who is kept awake, becoming crabby, resentful and unable to function properly during the day. It becomes a source … Continue reading

John Mayer’s New Girlfriend… Maybe

What’s the easiest way to lose a girlfriend? Don’t acknowledge her as your girlfriend. At least that’s John Mayer’s answer. The singer is furiously shooting down reports that he has rebounded from ex Jennifer Aniston with a 23-year-old aspiring actress. Attention Jennifer Aniston! John Mayer wants you to know that he’s still available should you wish to make the same mistake… twice. The rocker made a beeline to reporters yesterday after several publications ran a story Saturday about an alleged new relationship Mayer had started with waitress turned actress Scheana Marie. Mayer insists he is still single… Jennifer… and that … Continue reading

A Fun House for Little Girls… and Big Ones

If you have a Barbie fan in your home, then you might consider booking a flight to California before the end of the month. That’s when the curtains will be drawn on a real-life Barbie Malibu Dream House. But until then, you can try to snag a tour of an actual Malibu mansion that has been transformed into the popular doll’s dream home. Toy maker Mattel recently hired interior decorator Jonathan Adler to replicate Barbie’s pimped out pad in a real-life 3,500-square-foot beach house overlooking the Pacific Ocean. The home is being decorated to honor the doll on her 50th … Continue reading

Charlie Sheen’s New Boys and Guy Ritchie’s New Girl

What a difference a year can make. While some maintain he doesn’t deserve happiness, Charlie Sheen is having one heck of a 2008. Not only did he cut ties with former wife Denise Richards (though, when you are divorced from the other parent of your children, are you ever completely rid of them?), the same woman he dubbed “a pathetic example of a human being,” but Sheen also married his girlfriend Brooke Mueller and three months after the wedding announced that she was pregnant. Now, on top of all that, Sheen just confirmed that Mueller is expecting twins. Twin boys … Continue reading
