The Thunder Rolls

Sleep has become a big issue in our house. The toddler is not having any of it. She’s done. She wants to be out partying and doing whatever everyone else is doing. It’s really not all that exciting out here, but I’m sure it is for her. Jessie was such a good sleeper when she was a baby. We would put her in her bed and she’d flop over and go to sleep. She’d sleep through the night. She took three good naps during the day too. It was wonderful. We had a few rough patches with sleeping but they’ve … Continue reading

Thunderbirds

After suffering through his film, I was tempted to put it on the “Don’t Waste Your Time” list, but our five-year-old really enjoyed it. So I decided to offer it up with the disclaimer that unless you were or are a fan of the 1960s puppet show, you might not like this movie too much. And even then, the odds aren’t good. Widower John Tracy (Bill Paxton) is a multi-millionaire with five sons. He and his four oldest make up the Thunderbirds, dedicated to rescuing those in need all over the world. John has his own island, underneath which are … Continue reading

Adventurous Eating at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

I want to devote an entire day’s blog to dining in the Animal Kingdom. My naivete and lack of experience with Disney World shows, because I could write multiple blogs on the eatery options in just one Disney World Park, the Animal Kingdom included. So I’ll just give a quick overview today, saving the details for the nicer restaurants. The three proper sit down, have a relaxed and potentially multiple-course meal (and thus a more expensive one) establishments at the Animal Kingdom are the Rainforest Cafe, Tusker House Restaurant, and Yak & Yeti Restaurant. The Rainforest Cafe sounds like it … Continue reading

Go To Sleep!

I have written many times about the troubles we have with getting the toddler to sleep. She has been having terrors about being left alone in her room and going to sleep. She’s also waking in the middle of the night and having trouble going back to sleep. If there’s a thunder storm, we’re guaranteed to have her awake and wanting to sleep in our bed. We just don’t know what to do. I bought some children’s books on thunder to help Jessie with overcoming her fear, but she mindlessly ripped them to shreds along with one of her Fancy … Continue reading

The Major and the Minor (1942)

After reviewing “Never Been Kissed” last week and seeing that it’s considered a remake of “The Major and the Minor,” I decided I’d better see this film too, and compare them. Well, they’re both about a girl who pretends to be younger than she is and falls in love with an older man who is her mentor. And that’s where the similarities stop. But I did enjoy “The Major and the Minor” on its own merits. Ginger Rogers stars as Susan Applegate, a young woman who has left small-town farm life to come to New York to try to start … Continue reading
