Why Toddlers Love SpongeBob Squarepants

Many toddlers, including my son, love the cartoon, “SpongeBob Squarepants.” SpongeBob offers a lot of entertainment for toddlers, who otherwise have a short attention span. Although many parents don’t care for this cartoon, it can actually be good for children. SpongeBob offers a lot of music and most all toddlers love music. They can sing along to the songs in the cartoon and practice their unique dance skills. My son is adorable when he tries to copy the dances in the “SpongeBob Squarepants” episode featuring, “Band Geeks.” This is one of our favorite episodes. I don’t think I have ever … Continue reading

Toddler Art Layout

My son’s creativity has inspired me to design a new scrapbook layout using his art work. While I was working on a craft project, I gave my son some pieces of card stock, glitter glue, stickers and markers. I let him make his own creation while I worked across the table to finish my page design. I was very proud of my son’s creation. A few pieces of card stock glued together with blue glitter glue and decorated with markers. These are great little keepsakes. I have decided to use them in a two-page toddler art layout. I am using … Continue reading

Toddler Creations

I love how creative my son is. Has your toddler built a tower out of blocks lately? Have they decorated the refrigerator with magnets or stickers? Have you shown them how to glue pieces of paper together? Have they drawn with markers on some of their toys or books? I call these “toddler creations” and I love to collect and photograph them. I want to remember, years from now, what toddler creations my son has made. I want to show off his creative ideas in his scrapbook. I want to share his creativity with our friends and family by letting … Continue reading

Play Silks for Babies and Toddlers

I’ve never met a play silk that I didn’t like. These lovely, floating silks are a delight to babies, toddlers, preschoolers and beyond. In fact, I just finished dyeing and rolling a few into a bag to give to a little girl for a birthday party tomorrow. What is a play silk? It’s a square or rectangle or even a veil of Habotai silk, a lovely, floating piece of cloth that you can turn into all sorts of imaginative creations. Large play silks are big enough for older children to turn into slings, skirts, and capes. Really large silks can … Continue reading

How to Remove Bunchems from Hair

Every year, there is are specific toys that are considered to be the hottest, most popular, Christmas gift for kids. This year, a toy called Bunchems has attracted a lot of attention. The toy inspires creativity, but, unfortunately, also can get stuck in children’s hair. Bunchems is a toy that functions similarly to LEGO. Each Bunchem is a round, colorful, ball that appears to be made out of plastic. Each Bunchem is covered in little hooks that enable it to connect to other Bunchems. The cool thing about this popular toy is that it inspires creativity. Kids can build things … Continue reading

Art Class Adventures Part II

As parents guided their toddlers to different art stations, I too led my son to something new to do. He chose the stamping station stocked with lots of rubber stamps and many colorful ink pads. After using a few different stamps and a couple different colors, he realized that stamping was more limited than he liked. We moved on. The next station he chose was really quite neat. Large paint brushes were attached to long bamboo sticks creating three very long paintbrushes. A large and long piece of paper was attached to the wall and on the floor were three … Continue reading

Say Yes To The Mess

Today I realized that while Dylan has had a few forays into the wonderful world of art, he has probably not had nearly enough opportunities to express himself creatively. Why? Well, to put it simply, I am terrified of the possible mess and destruction that could result. Before you label me a terrible parent who deprives her toddler of any creative outlet for fear that he might make a mess, let me explain. When Dylan uses crayons or colored pencils he makes wonderful creations on paper. For about five minutes. Then he wants to take the crayons or colored pencils … Continue reading

Getting Dressed

Is it a fight every morning to get your toddler dressed? Does your toddler love to dress themselves? Are you able to put the cute accessories on your toddler and accentuate their outfit or are they happier in a diaper and t-shirt? My son wakes up every morning asking to get dressed for the day. He also strips out of his clothes at the end of the day when he is ready to relax and run around in a diaper. The problem I have is keeping shoes on my son. He takes them off every time I put him in … Continue reading

Beach Baby

Living near the beach, my son has been a beach baby since he could sit up. He was crawling in the sand long before he could walk. He’s the second generation beach baby as I have plenty of photos of myself on the beach by the age of two. The beach holds a lot of fun for a toddler. The sand is fun to play in. It doesn’t seem to matter if they are playing with the sand with their hands or building a sand castle with shovels, sand is just simply fun. We’ve taken my son’s beach toys out … Continue reading
