Life Goes On With Toddler And Baby

I am not sure what I expected life with a baby and a toddler would be like. In fact, I am pretty sure that I did not have any expectations. For some reason, I simply did not think about what it would be like until Blake came along. In hindsight it is probably best that I did not have any preexisting expectations because they may have been completely different than what has actually transpired during the past seven months. The first couple of months were a blur, as things normally are after the arrival of a new baby. Time passed, … Continue reading

Easy Tasty Healthy Toddler Snacks

Sometimes it can be hard to get toddlers to eat anything, let alone things that are good for their growing minds and bodies. They are busy little people who often prefer to remain engrossed in whatever activity they happen to be engrossed in at the time instead of sitting down and clearing a plate of whatever nutritious meal you have just lovingly prepared for them. Fortunately, hunger does eventually overcome the excitement of play and your little one is likely to rush to your side and demand to be fed. Right. Now. With a little advance planning, you can make … Continue reading

Lost And Found

Today was a beautiful day to take a walk with the boys, so I asked Dylan if he wanted to go for a walk. He did, and when I asked him where he wanted to go he told me that he wanted to walk to the old meeting house. As I packed up some snacks and water, Dylan ran to the toy room to get something. When he came back into the kitchen he was carrying Buddy, his stuffed owl. He told me that Buddy would be upset if we left her at home while we went for a walk. … Continue reading

Take a Joyride to Radiator Springs at Cars Land

Radiator Springs is officially open for visitation on June 15. That’s the date that Disneyland’s newest park, Cars Land, is open to the public. The official Disney Parks blog has been posting a lot of pictures from Cars Land lately, but what I’ve actually found most informative about the forthcoming park is its own website. I want to refer to Cars Land as Radiator Springs because that’s basically what it is: guests walk right down Route 66 into the small town and they can visit all the shops and residences of the cars that live there. Swing by Fillmore’s Taste-In … Continue reading

Toddler Snacks You Can Feel Good About

If you feel like you are lucky to get a few bites of each meal into your toddler, you are not alone. Even toddlers who enjoy eating are sometimes too busy to sit down long enough to eat an entire meal. Of course, they eventually do get hungry and they usually do not let you know about it until they are starving and want something to eat immediately. Parents can help their toddlers to get the nutrition that they need by offering a variety of nutritious, easy to prepare snacks throughout the day. Snacks that include both protein and fat … Continue reading

Toddlers and Food Preferences

Has your toddler developed a very strong preference for one specific food? If so, don’t panic – it will not last forever and they will be okay. A few months ago, I had read an article about toddlers and their eating habits. After reading the article, I gave thanks that at that time Dylan was a very good eater and would eat almost anything that was served at the table. A few weeks ago, I found myself giving thanks that I had read the aforementioned article because Mr. Balanced Diet suddenly developed a very strong food preference – for oatmeal. … Continue reading

Toddlers and Television: The Electronic Babysitter

I have been criticized more than once for letting my toddler watch television. It is often referred to as the electronic babysitter, mostly by people who don’t think toddlers should watch television at all. However, I do not consider the television to be an electronic babysitter, so much as a source of both entertainment and education. There have been times when I have joked that I’m happy to have my electronic babysitter. That usually occurs when I desperately need to finish dinner and my son wants to play ball. I need a few minutes to get plates on the table … Continue reading

Toddlers and Snacks

My toddler nephew is obsessed with those 100-calorie cookie and snack packs. My sister-in-law started buying them to take to work, but one day she got caught in a traffic jam and was forced to use them to calm down my screaming nephew, who wanted out of his carseat. He’s been hooked ever since. The word popular doesn’t do justice to the handy snack packs. They are everywhere! In fact, a recent survey found that there are more than 150 different kinds of snack packs on the market right now and last year their sales topped the $200 million mark. … Continue reading

Traveling with Toddlers: Layover or Not?

When I took my 20-month-old daughter on a 10-hour flight to Hawaii the last thing I wanted was to have her fall asleep right as our connecting flight was about to land. The thought of having to switch planes and tote a sleeping toddler around the airport while juggling my carry-ons was all the incentive I needed to shell out extra money to book a direct flight. But that’s just me. If your toddler is not a napper, then a layover provides the chance to have your son or daughter run off some steam. The break also allows you to … Continue reading
