Happy Birthday Dylan

It’s nearly official. Dylan went to bed as a two year old, and when he awakens in the morning it will be his third birthday. Good night, toddler, good morning, preschooler. I’m not sure that I agree with all of those people who say that “it goes by so fast”, but that might be either because not enough time has passed and I’ll be saying it a few years from now or because I have been lucky enough to stay home with him and experience (nearly) every waking moment of his toddlerhood. There is no one word that sums up … Continue reading

Planning A Toddler Birthday Party

With about a month until Dylan turns three, it is time for me to put on my party planning hat and dream up the details of a special day for him. He has been very interested in trucks and construction vehicles lately, so I am sure that our theme will be something along those lines. Having already planned two birthday parties, I have learned that a few simple guidelines are helpful for parents of young children who are planning a birthday bash. My first tip for planning a party for a young child is to keep it small. Of course … Continue reading

Toddlers Are Awesome

I recently realized that my toddler will not be a toddler much longer. Apparently, the age range during which a child is a toddler is from eighteen months until three years. Dylan will turn three on November 21. At that point, he will belong to the “preschoolers” age group regardless of whether or not he is actually enrolled in preschool at the time. As with anything kid – related, it seems as though passing through the toddler stage did not take as long as I thought that it might. There sure have been a lot of things packed in to … Continue reading

E’s First Birthday Party

I knew that Baby E’s birthday was coming. It really should not have been any kind of a surprise that Baby E was going to be one. I just wasn’t so sure how I wanted to ring in the day. I knew I wanted to celebrate with her; I didn’t know how big of a celebration I wanted to have. All of E’s grandparents were planning to visit to help her change from baby to toddler status. Grammy and Papa were arriving the Tuesday before her birthday and Grandma and Grandpa were coming after. The kids, Daddy, and I were … Continue reading

Happy Birthday E

I wish a great big happy birthday to my baby daughter. Baby E is one. I can’t believe it. Where did the time go? I can’t believe I now have two toddlers. Baby E has been an adventure. She has not had the best health, but has always been happy. I always said that she’s the happiest miserable baby. We finally got a lot of her misery under control when we got her on the right medicine and formula combination. Baby E has a lot of doctors and only the pediatrician and dentist are not specialists. We’ve been to the … Continue reading

Gymboree Birthday Party

My friend had her son’s second birthday party at Gymboree. It was everything I had hoped it would be. The day of the party started out as any day would. I had myself scheduled well. I was going to leave the house with the girls two hours before the party to give us plenty of time to drive to the location and shop at Toys R Us beforehand. Toys R Us is in the same shopping center with Gymboree, so it works out nicely. I had in my calendar that the party started at 11AM and we got there at … Continue reading

Throwing a Green Birthday Party – Part 1

My son recently had his sixth birthday and we had the party at the local bowling alley. However, it wasn’t very green. The bowling alley supplied paper plates and cups, but I doubt they were recycled afterward. If you are having a child’s birthday party soon and would like to green it up, check out some of these tips: Earth-Friendly Birthday Party For some reason, when I plan my son’s birthday party, I think of Chuck E. Cheese, the bowling alley, or the local laser tag place. But, he’s 6 – what does he love most in the world? Bugs, … Continue reading

Birthday Photos

It’s birthday month in my family. It seems like every couple of days we celebrate another birthday. While most of these birthdays aren’t of little children anymore, it still makes me think of cute birthday parties from when we were growing up and the photos we’d (try to) take of the events. I sometimes ended up being the photographer on those events. I won’t claim to have been a good photographer then, and the photos prove my lack of experience. There are cake pictures where the only thing visible is the candle flames. There are grainy photos, dark photos, and … Continue reading

Toddler’s First Birthday

One of my daughter’s young friends officially entered toddler-dom. Today my daughter and I went to our friends’ house to celebrate their youngest turning one. The venue was perfect for the seven toddlers in attendance. The bounce house should have been a big hit, but the toddler pool and sprinkler held far more amusement. I couldn’t help but remember my daughter’s first birthday party. Jessie joined our family two months before her first birthday. We invited all of our friends over to the house and ate pizza. All the children played together with Jessie’s toys. Jessie and a friend’s three-year-old … Continue reading

Baby’s First Easter

Holidays were quite possibly the most exciting part of my life when I was young. I’d count down the days to Christmas, Easter, Halloween, and my birthday with major anticipation. I could hardly sleep the night before the big day. As I got older, the butterflies that used to be present around holidays began to disappear. However, this year, they’re back with a vengeance. What brought back the excitement? I have a baby! Even though she’s really too young to understand or appreciate what is going on, we’re starting to include our daughter in holiday events. We didn’t really intend … Continue reading
